Frequently asked Questions

What is Sport Speed?

We define Sport Speed as the difference between how fast you are in a practice session and how fast you can move, react and play when you're in the match. Having great straight line speed is a massive plus, but can you take it into a game where it matters most? The best athletes can stop, reaccelerate and change direction in a split second and aren't necessarily the best in the weight-room. At SSP, we bridge gap developing strong athletes who are lightning on the pitch. Couple Sport Speed with great tactical awareness and sport specific skills and have you a recipe for a true elite performer!

How is SSP different from other trainers?

At SSP we put the focus on where it should be- helping you play your sport better. Your performance during matches and practices is what gets players selected for county squads and higher honours, so that's where we make your gym work pay off! To do this we developed a unique assessment protocol to identify areas to target removing barriers to higher performance. Then we create a bespoke training program just for you in order to make the greatest possible gains in your athletic performance. There are no filler exercises or time wasted, there is always a "why" and a reason behind everything we do.

SSP seems a little expensive compared to other trainers, why is this?

The difference between Sport Speed Performance and your average personal trainer, is the level of specific education our trainers have had. Being educated to MSc level alongside being internationally accredited (UKSCA), allows us to carry out specific performance orientated training and keep you safe whilst doing so. Personal trainers on the other hand, have expertise in weight loss and body recomposition, rather than sports performance. at Sport Speed Performance 1000's of hours have been spent developing the skillset to skyrocket your athletic performance whereas a basic personal trainer qualification takes roughly a weekend to complete. Finally, a typical hourly rate for a personal trainer is roughly £35 an hour, so not only are you getting somebody who is better qualified for the job, but you are getting it for a bargain too!

Do I need to be at a certain athletic level to train with Sports Speed Performance?

There is absolutely no minimum standard that an athlete needs to be playing at to come train with at SSP. We recognise that each athlete is at different stage in their development and train each person accordingly. Some athletes have made it and are trying to push into the elite tier, whilst some have only just missed out and others are just beginning their journey. All we ask for is effort, commitment and the will to work hard!

Do you only work with Team Sport Athletes?

At SSP we work with all different types of sports, but have a great deal of experience in Team Based Sports (Football, Rugby etc.) However we have coached every sport from Triathlon to MMA, and everything in the middle. We can help all people from all sports take one step closer to reaching their potential.
